Emily Nagoski

Emily Nagoski is a prominent sex educator, author, and researcher known for her contributions to the understanding of women’s sexuality. She holds a PhD in health behavior with a concentration in human sexuality from Indiana University and has authored several influential books, including the best-seller *Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Life*. This work explores the complexities of female sexual response, emphasizing concepts such as “responsive desire” and “arousal non-concordance,” which challenge traditional notions of women’s sexual functioning.

Nagoski began her career in sex education in 1995 at the University of Delaware, where she volunteered as a peer health educator. She later earned a master’s degree in counseling from Indiana University, where she completed clinical internships at the Kinsey Institute Sexual Health Clinic. Her academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding the intersection of sexuality and mental health.

From 2008 to 2016, Nagoski served as the Director of Wellness Education at Smith College, where she taught courses on women’s sexuality and health. Her teaching style integrates scientific research with practical applications, aiming to empower women to embrace their bodies and sexualities with confidence and joy.

In addition to *Come as You Are*, Nagoski co-authored *Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle* with her twin sister Amelia, addressing the unique stressors women face. Her upcoming book, *Come Together: The Science (and Art!) of Creating Lasting Sexual Connections*, is set to release in January 2024, further exploring intimacy and connection in relationships.

Nagoski’s work is characterized by its accessibility and relatability, making complex scientific concepts understandable for a broad audience. She continues to speak widely on topics related to sexual well-being, mental health, and empowerment, striving to transform how society views women’s sexuality.
